HC Deb 05 December 1994 vol 251 c46W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what his Department is doing to ensure adequate news coverage on independent radio stations.

Mr. Dorrell

The BBC provides news coverage on its radio services as part of its public service functions. The Broadcasting Act 1990 does not require applicants for independent radio licences to offer a news service, but provides that any news that is broadcast by a licensed station must be presented with due accuracy and impartiality.
