Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Education how much money has been allocated to Liverpool for capital works on schools since 1989, and if she will list for each scheme(a) the amounts approved to basic credit approvals and supplementary credit approvals, (b) the year of approval and (c) if it has been completed.

Liverpool's annual capital guidelines for schools have been as follows—£'000:

  • 1989–90: 541
  • 1990–91: 8,262
  • 1991–92: 5,425
  • 1992–93: 5,576
  • 57
  • 1993–94: 2,822
  • 1993–95: 4,540

The funding and progress of individual projects are a matter for the local education authority.

Supplementary credit approvals have been issued to Liverpool as follows:

  • 1992–93; £212,000 for health and safety work.
  • 1993–94. £590,000 for work to implement statutory proposals at Alice Elliott and Underlea special schools; and the consolidation of Broughton Hall Roman Catholic school on one site.
  • 1994–95: £133,000 for health and safety work.
