HC Deb 05 December 1994 vol 251 c41W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners what is the current shortfall or profit in the accounts of the Church Commissioners.

Mr. Alison

The financial statements of the Church Commissioners, published as part of their annual report and accounts, include an income and expenditure account and a statement of total gains and losses as required by financial reporting standards. The latter shows that, in 1993, consolidated expenditure exceeded income by £2.1 million and consolidated capital gains amounted to £296.2 million.

Mr. Flynn

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners on what grounds the Church Commissioners do not usually publish the accounts of the companies and undertakings owned by them.

Mr. Alison

The accounts of the Commissioners' United Kingdom subsidiary companies are filed at Companies House, where they are available for public
