§ Lord Kennetasked Her Majesty's Government:
What meaning is to be attached to the statement of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to the effect that the unity of NATO was a prime consideration in the background to the military strikes against Bosnian Serb forces on 10th and 11th April, and whether this is a reference to the apparent change of opinion in Washington between US Secretary of Defense Perry's earlier remarks and US National Security Adviser Lake's later remarks concerning military strikes in Bosnia.
§ Baroness Chalker of WallaseyThe need to maintain unity among NATO Allies over Alliance policy in the former Yugoslavia is at all times important. The decision to launch close air support on 10th and 11th April was taken by commanders on the ground and the UN Secretary General's Special Representative in the former Yugoslavia, in accordance with the powers delegated to them by NATO and the UN.
