To ask the Secretary of State for Health how levels of maternal, perinatal and infant mortality, and of child health protection, have changed in the last 10 years.

Infant, perinatal and maternal mortality rates are now the lowest levels ever recorded. We have placed a copy of tables showing the rates for the last 10 years for these definitions, and maternal mortality, in the Library.

Incidences of childhood diseases are also at record low levels. Over 90 per cent. of all children are now immunised against the major childhood diseases.
