HL Deb 25 April 1994 vol 554 c21WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their information on the situation in the Sandzak of Novi Pazer (Serbia)

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

Local human rights groups have expressed concern about the treatment of the Sandzak Muslims and the resulting departure from the area of significant numbers of Muslims during the past two years. Our Embassy in Belgrade makes frequent visits to the area, most recently in April. We continue to press for the return 10 the region of CSCE monitors

Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many members of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) have been arrested, or tortured or killed since January 1992 in Serbia and Montenegro

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We condemn the lack of respect for human rights in the Sandzak, including the treatment of members of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA). We continue to press for the return to the region. of CSCE monitors. There are no reliable figures for the number of SDA members arrested, tortured or murdered since January 1992.
