§ Mr. RedwoodIn October 1992 the then Secretary of State for Wales announced that up to £43 million would be made available to assist all areas in Wales affected by the colliery closures. Subsequently £18.09 million was allocated for coal closure mitigation action in the Taff Merthyr area and of this £16.36 million has been spent. This figure excludes training allowances which cannot be separately identified and £1.73 million of European regional development funding.
