§ Mr. SoamesProvisions relating to the welfare of animals during transport are enforced by local authorities. Statistics from local authority sources indicate that, during the year 1992–93, 190,100 vehicle inspections were made at roadside checks, in markets and at other places; 182 prosecutions were taken under the legislation relating to welfare of animals in transport, and 61 formal cautions issued. In a further 2,725 cases advice or warnings were given. Additional information is not recorded centrally.
