§ Mr. StewartMy right hon. Friend does not collect information about skill shortages in the economy. It is an objective of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to improve the performance of new and existing businesses by increasing their commitment to plan and invest in training and development to meet business needs. Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise are also responsible for funding and co-ordinating the provision of training for young people and unemployed adults through local enterprise companies to meet the needs of the local labour markets.
