§ Mr. FatchettTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the recent decision by the European Commission to delay the restructuring of the steel industry.
§ Mr. Heseltine[holding answer 13 April 1994]: I know of no such decision. Restructuring of the EC steel industry is essentially a matter for the companies concerned. The most important contribution which the Commission can make lies in the rigorous application of the European Coal and Steel Community state aid rules, including in particular implementation of the improved monitoring procedures agreed at the 17 December Industry Council.
