To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list details of road checks on light goods vehicles and passenger-carrying vehicles carried out by vehicle inspectorate staff during 1992; and how many vehicles were issued with defect notices or prohibition notices.

Mr. Key

The vehicle inspectorate collects information on a financial rather than a calender year basis. The figures below relate to the financial year 1992–93.
