HC Deb 27 October 1993 vol 230 c701W
Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many married quarters in the United Kingdom have been transferred to local housing authorities; and what is their total value for the last 10 years.

Mr. Hanley

Over the last 10 years at least, 1,918 surplus married quarters have been sold to housing associations or local authorities at a value of over £55 million. Because records for the earlier years are not maintained in a way which allows such sales to be easily identified, these figures may underestimate the true position. In addition a substantial programme of leasing has been carried on throughout the period and we currently have 1,057 properties on lease to these organisations and others.

Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the names of those estate agents and other specialists called in to advise the Defence Land Agent on the disposal of MOD property.

Mr. Hanley

My noble Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence will write to the hon. Member once such a list has been compiled.

Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what was the total value of sales of MOD land and buildings sold by the Defence Land Agent over the last 10 years.

Mr. Hanley

The value of land and buildings sold by my Department in each of the last 10 years expressed in millions of pounds is as follows:

£ million
1983–84 42.0
1984–85 27.7
