Letter to Ms Joan Ruddock from Derek Lewis, dated 22 October 1993:
The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the new prison building programme due to be completed in 1994.When Doncaster prison is opened in 1994 this will see the completion of a building programme which will have provided 11,285 new places at 21 new prisons since 1985. The total cost of the programme will be £l 2 billion.
