To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the latest estimate available to her of the annual number of operations in(a) NHS hospitals and (b) private hospitals in England for (i) hip replacement, (ii) cataract and (iii) varicose veins.

We do not collect information on activity in private hospitals. For national health service hospitals the latest available information through the hospital episode statistics is shown in the table.
