§ Mr. YeoThe Department of the Environment "Digest of Environmental Protection and Water Statistics" HMSO 1992 indicates that during 1990–91, 136,609 complaints about noise were received by local authorities, relating to the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Of these, 31,721 were considered to be justified as statutory nuisances and in 6,113 cases abatement notices were served.
The 1990 Act came into operation on 1 January 1991 and separate figures for the number of complaints investigated under that Act in 1990–91 are not available.
