How many people they, or their agencies, employ in London and the South East, how many of them are in receipt of weighting allowances, and how much such allowances amount to in total.

One hundred and ninety-seven thousand, two hundred and sixty-eight civil servants were employed in government departments or agencies in London and the South East at 1 April 1993. Of these, 106,802 were in receipt of London Weighting and 44,929 received Local Pay Additions. At the rates currently applying, the estimated annual cost of London Weighting is £157,254,294 and of Local Pay Additions is £20,368,000.
