The information required is not collected centrally in the format requested and can only be obtained at disproportionate cost from individual departments. An analysis of Civil Service posts by department and economic planning region is published inCivil Service Statistics. On 1 April 1992, some 37 per cent, (209,000 posts) of the Civil Service was located in London and the South East.
