§ Mr. DenhamTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proposals the United Kingdom executive director has made to the World bank to ensure that energy efficiency should be encouraged in developing countries rather than increasing the number of power plants.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydOur executive director played a full part in board discussion of a bank policy paper on energy efficiency and conservation in 1992. The report on the 10th replenishment of the International Development Association—IDA-10—which was approved by the board 311W in January 1993, noted the importance of promoting end-use energy efficiency alongside increases in supply. It also underlined the need for IDA to expand its least cost planning analysis to take account of both demand side and alternative supply side options employing proven technologies in energy conservation and renewable energy sources.
