Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list for each civil service grade in his Department(a) the total number of persons employed and (b) the total number of women employed.

The following information relates to staff employed at 1 April 1993, and shows full-time, part-time and full-time equivalent numbers, which count part time as half.

There are some 500 departmental grades and some 850 industrial grades used in the Ministry of Defence, most of which are managed locally. A detailed breakdown of these could only be provided at disproportionate cost and effort.
