Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many persons have undergone DNA tests in connection with immigration at the most recent date and how many have proven positive on(a) Merseyside, (b) Liverpool and (c) England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The total number of children tested under the Government DNA scheme at the end of 1992 was 2,955. Eighty per cent. of those tested were shown to be related as claimed to both parents. Data about the geographical location of sponsors in the United Kingdom are not held centrally.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many persons were awaiting DNA tests in connection with immigration matters in(a) Liverpool, (b) on Merseyside and (c) in England and Wales at the most recent date.
