For many years the prices of the Official Report (Hansard) were heavily subsidised. In 1983, when the annual subsidy stood at £6 million, the Government decided progressively to reduce the level of subsidy received, by a combination of price increases and improved methods of production. The November 1991 price increase to £7.50 eliminated the subsidy and further technological advances enabled this price to be held throughout the 1992–23 Session.
