To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer to the hon. Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Shersby) of 28 April,Official Report, columns 448–49, on marriages for immigration purposes, how many of the cases in the London borough of Lewisham which were reported to the Registrar General were passed on to the Home Office; and how many of those complaints were proven.

The Registrar General passed on to the Home Office 27 of the cases reported to him in the London borough of Lewisham.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department has provided the following information about the 27 cases passed to his office: 11 cases: No further action taken immediately. 14 cases: Information referred to case working groups to be taken into account in the consideration of outstanding applications for further leave to remain. 2 cases: Referred for immediate enforcement action; one case involved the subject of a deportation order and the other an illegal entrant.
