Mr. Michael Spicer

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has about the proposed corridor linking Harwich with Fishguard to be funded in part by the European Community; and whether this will involve the lengthening or enhancing of the M50.

Mr. Key

A route between Harwich and Fishguard forms part of the trans-European road network that has now been agreed within the European Community. The M50 is not part of this route, but it is part of the M4—A449 — A40—M50—M5 TERN route between South Wales and the west midlands. Its inclusion in the network does not involve any lengthening or enhancement.
