§ 31. Mr. John MarshallTo ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners if he will make a statement about the impact on clergy pensions of the results of Church Commissioners' investments.
§ Mr. AlisonThe current level of clergy pensions is amply covered by the Commissioners' resources. The report of the Lambeth group has, however, recommended that regular contributions should be made to a segregated fund to ensure that accruing liabilities in respect of future service are provided for as they arise and this is under consideration.
§ 33. Mr. ThurnhamTo ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners what representations he has received about the future level of clergy pensions; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. AlisonNone. The Church remains committed to the provision of reasonable pensions and retirement accommodation for its clergy and their dependants. The Lambeth report, which was one of those I referred to in my earlier reply to the hon. Member for Southwark and Bermondsey (Mr. Hughes), has recommended that some features of the existing scheme might be re-examined, and this will be done in the context of that commitment.
