HC Deb 01 November 1993 vol 231 c81W
Mr. Jacques Arnold

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what changes there have been in the cash limits or running costs limits of his Department.

Mr. Scott

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary supplementary estimate the cash limit for class XIII vote 4 will be increased by £30,958,000 from £2,527,166,000 to £2,558,124,000. The revision takes account of increased requirements resulting from rising workloads (£8,566,000 running costs), an increase of £23,434,000 (of which £12,628,000 is running costs) in respect of the end year flexibility arrangements, a reduction of £1,531,000 (running costs) offset by a corresponding increase on Department of Health and Social Services (Northern Ireland), vote 3, an increase of £20.000 in running cost cover for services provided to Department of Health and Social Services (Northern Ireland) on repayment, a transfer to Department of Health, class XIII, vote 3, of £1,161,000 (of which £1,065,000 is running costs) and a reduction of £99,000 in appropriations in aid.

As a result of these changes and the running costs limit of the Department of Social Security will be increased by £18,432,000 from £2,902,578,000 to £2,921,010,000.

The additional requirements will be charged to the Reserve and will therefore not add to the planned total of public expenditure.
