§ Ms JowellTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people have been waiting for eight weeks or more without the offer of a place; and what steps she is taking to provide youth training places for them.
§ Mr. McLoughlinTraining and enterprise councils (TECs) are required to ensure that young people are made one or more offers of youth training within a reasonable period of time. In April—the latest date for which information is available—there were 3,436 young people in England who were covered by the YT guarantee, had been waiting for a YT place for eight or more weeks and had not previously had an offer of a place.
The contracts with TECs provide for regular reviews of the position on the YT guarantee both currently and prospectively. This Government continue to be committed to the guarantee and that is why TECs have been asked to treat this as a top priority. I am taking a close interest in progress in its delivery.
