§ Mr. Ian BruceTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the level of United Kingdom representation on the European agricultural advisory committees for(a) the oil and fats 543W sector, (b) the fresh and processed fruit and vegetable committee and (c) social questions affecting farmers and members of their families; and what assessment has been made of the reasons for the difference in the United Kingdom level relative to other large EC countries.
§ Mr. CurryMembers of agricultural advisory committees are appointed by the European Commission on the basis of information supplied by trade and professional bodies. Their role is to advise the Commission on its work in the various agricultural sectors. National Governments are not involved in these appointments in any way.
