HC Deb 21 May 1993 vol 225 c354W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the policy underlying, and the estimated impact of, the restructuring of Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution, as announced on 29 April.

Mr. Maclean

HMIP has undergone an internal restructuring aimed at consolidating the organisational, management and cultural changes brought about by the implementation of integrated pollution control. It is part of the continuing development of the inspectorate as a performance-driven, customer-aware and value-formoney organisation.

The reorganisation will enable the management and staff of HMIP to focus their efforts better on delivering the inspectorate's key objectives more efficiently and effectively and, thereby, to provide an enhanced service to industry and the public.
