HC Deb 21 May 1993 vol 225 c345W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 13 May,Official Report, column 573, what specific effect the fleet's commitments in the Adriatic had on the decision that HMS Avenger should return directly to the United Kingdom from the south Atlantic rather than via the Pacific; and what was the difference between the two plans in the projected dates of her return to port.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

In allocating the fuel available to the Fleet in 1993–94, priority has been given to operational tasks, including the commitment in the Adriatic, with the result that plans for some other activities, including HMS Avenger's visit to Chile, have had to be changed. HMS Avenger will arrive back in the United Kingdom 33 days earlier than was originally planned.
