To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement about his plans to amalgamate the DEMOS and ETIS schemes for assisting environmental and technological developments in industry; what the new scheme will be called; and how much money is likely to be available for it.

The DEMOS and ETIS schemes will complete their three-year term in September 1993. The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of the Environment are currently considering what future support might be appropriate to encourage innovation by industry in environmental technology. No decision has yet been taken. An announcement will be made should Departments proceed with any new scheme.
