§ Mrs. GoldingTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many members of the tribunals set up as a result of the Child Support Act 1991 are(a) existing magistrates, (b) nominated by trade unions, (c) women, (d) lone parents and (e) under 30 years of age.
§ Mr. BurtThe independent tribunal service (ITS) has, to date, recruited 734 members under the provisions of the Child Support Act 1991. According to information available, 87 are existing magistrates, 102 have been nominated by trade unions, 363 are women, 36 lone parents and seven are under the age of 30.
As a matter of routine the ITS collects data only on the age and sex of its tribunal members. There may, therefore, be more magistrates, trade union nominees and lone parents than these figures indicate.
