To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of people between the ages of 16 and retirement age, receive(a) free prescriptions and (b) free dental treatment.

Mr. Stewart

An estimated 22 per cent. of the population between the age of 16 and state pension age are eligible for free prescriptions and 23 per cent. are eligible for free dental treatment. An estimated further 2 per cent. are entitled to some help with their dental charges.

All young people under 18 receive free dental treatment.
