To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list his Department's specific areas of responsibility on children's matters.

Mr. Jack

The Home Office is responsible for: General policy on young offenders;:

  • The provision and administration of attendance centres for children and young persons;
  • The law on child prostitution, child abduction, child pornography and children's evidence in court;
  • Disclosure policy in relation to people working with children;
  • Placement, regimes and sentence planning for 15 to 17-year-olds ordered to be detained in young offender institutions or under section 53 of the Children and Young Persons Act.

In addition, my Department has general responsibilities for the police, immigration and prison services all of which may have a youth dimension.
