HC Deb 11 May 1993 vol 224 c416W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will increase resources available to education authorities in Scotland to enable more flexible school transport in rural areas.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 10 May 1993]: It is for local authorities themselves to determine the level of expenditure on school transport in the light of their overall spending priorities and taking into account local needs. In distributing Government support to local authorities through aggregate external finance, account is taken of the differing population settlement patterns in rural areas.
