HC Deb 11 May 1993 vol 224 c402W
5. Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what plans he has to increase the account taken in standard spending assessments of nursery education.

Mr. Forth

At national level, local authority grant settlements have reflected the general increase over the years in the number of under-fives in school. The under-fives element of each authority's SSA is based on the number of three and four-year-olds resident in the authority. It is for each authority to decide how to allocate resources between its various services, including under-fives education which authorities provide under discretionary powers.
