To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the current level of unemployment in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stewart

In March 1993, the level of unemployment in Scotland, seasonally adjusted, was 244,400 or 9.6 per cent. of the work force.

It is very encouraging that unemployment in Scotland has fallen for two successive months.
