To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to ensure that all police forces monitor racial and homophobic attacks.

[holding answer 4 May 1993]: All police forces monitor racial incidents reported to them, and report to HM inspectorate of constabulary each year the number of incidents.

The introduction of systematic monitoring of homophobic attacks is a matter for chief officers.
