HL Deb 04 May 1993 vol 545 cc31-2WA
Lord Ross of Newport

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the proposed urban regeneration agency will undertake the restoration of urban and rural canals.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Strathclyde)

The agency will be able to undertake the restoration of canals as part of its wider remit of regenerating vacant, derelict and contaminated land. It is too early to say whether any such projects will feature in its work programme.
