HC Deb 04 May 1993 vol 224 c23W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what volumes of(a) radioactive waste and (b) spent nuclear fuel are currently stored at the Trawsfynydd nuclear plant; what amounts of (i) radioactive waste and (ii) spent nuclear fuel have been transported from the plant for disposal or processing, respectively; and what visits have been made to the plant by Euratom safeguards inspectors since it opened.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The volumes of radioactive waste and spent fuel stored at and transported from Trawsfynydd are operational matters for Nuclear Electric. The precise number of inspections carried out at Trawsfynydd is a matter for the EC Euratom safeguards directorate and the operator. I understand, however, that the objectives of Euratom require that this type of plant should be inspected about three or four times each year.
