To ask the Secretary of State for Education (1) pursuant to his answer of 19 March,Official Report, column 408, if he will publish the name of the agency, commissioned by the School Examinations and Assessment Council, to undertake an internal evaluation of the 1992 pilot English tests for 14-year-olds; and what was the cost of the evaluation;

(2) pursuant to his answer of 19 March, Official Report, column 408, if he will place a copy of the report of the evaluation commissioned by the School Examinations and Assessment Council, of the 1992 pilot English tests in the Library.

The evaluation was undertaken by the Northern Examinations and Assessment Board (NEAB) as part of its contract with SEAC to write tests for 14-year-olds in English. The total cost of the contract was £206,000, covering the period September 1991 to September 1992. It is not possible to disaggregate the cost of the evaluation in particular.
