To ask the Secretary of State for Education when he will next meet the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry to discuss the contribution universities can make to successful industrial and commercial development.

My right hon. Friend currently has no plans to meet the Director General of the CBI. However, Ministers are encouraged to note from their day to day contacts with representatives of industry and the universities that they are very conscious of the need to promote links for their mutual benefit.
