Mr. Garrett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment why the six beaches in Norfolk which failed tests for enteroviruses in 1991 were not tested for enteroviruses in 1992.

[holding answer 25 March 1993]: National Rivers Authority policy is to test for enteroviruses where the coliform standards were not met the previous season. Two of the six were tested in 1992, the other four met the coliform standards in 1991.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many inland waters in Norfolk conform to the definition of bathing area in article 1 of the water quality directive EC 76/160.
