HC Deb 29 March 1993 vol 222 cc95-6W
Mr. Callaghan

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of males between the ages of 15 and 30 years have been convicted of at least one indictable offence in the Greater Manchester area.

Mr. Jack

The information is not available in the form requested. Nationally, 24 per cent. of males born in 1953 have been estimated to have been convicted of at least one "standard list" offence between the ages of 15 and 30 years; 33 per cent. at age 30 or less. These estimates stem from a sample of some 8,500 offenders from the offenders index. More details are given in table 1 of HOSB 32/89 "Criminal and Custodial careers of those born in 1953, 1958 and 1963", a copy of which is available in the Library.
