To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his policy on the adoption of 30 June as an appropriate deadline for the ratification of the framework convention on climate change by the member states of the European Community.

At this week's Environment Council all member states agreed to take the measures necessary to enable them to ratify the convention not later than the end of 1993. This matches the United Kingdom's earlier commitment, along with our Group of Seven partners, to ratify the convention by the end of 1993.
