HC Deb 25 March 1993 vol 221 c691W
Mr. Gill

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the annual cost of wages and salaries paid to the employees of West Midlands regional health authority.

Mr. Sackville

In 1991–92 the West Midlands regional health authority incurred gross expenditure on salaries and wages, including national insurance and superannuation contributions, of £29.88 million. This figure covers staff of many disciplines employed by the authority both at headquarters level and on the provision of certain operational services within the region. In addition the authority met the gross salaries and wages costs of medical staff—mainly senior registrars, £15.22 million—and ambulance staff—£12.78 million.

For more detailed information, I refer my hon. Friend to the chairman of the West Midlands regional health authority.
