To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the appointment of the chairman of the Welsh Development Agency.

I am considering a large number of applications received in response to advertisements for this appointment. This will not be completed in time for a new appointment to become effective before the end of this month and I have therefore asked the present chairman, Dr. Gwyn Jones, to continue in post until the end of June. I am pleased to say that Dr. Jones has told me that he has been able to adjust his commitments to enable him to do so. I will make a further announcement about the appointment in due course.
