§ Mr. ForthThe table shows the average salary of standard scale teachers in the maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools sector on 31 March 1990. The figures are based on the actual salaries paid to teachers including incentive allowances, London allowances, and other discretionary payments. More recent figures are not yet available separately for each LEA. The 1992 new earnings survey recorded the average earnings of all school teachers in England and Wales, including head and deputy head teachers, as £20,498.
