§ Mr. GarnierTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the level of resources for spending on personal social services, including community care, in 1992–93 and 1993–94; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. YeoTotal standard spending for local authority personal social services in 1992–93 is £4,850 million. In 1993–94 standard spending will be £5,585 million, an increase of 15 per cent. Included in the 1993–94 total is the special transitional grant of £565 million for community care. This provides evidence of the Government's commitment to social services. Standard spending next year will be more than 33 per cent. higher in real terms than in 1990–91. Expenditure by local authorities in 1992–93 is 67 per cent. higher in real terms than in 1978–79, and the special transitional grant is 35 per cent. higher than the transfer of resources from the Department of Social Security.
