HC Deb 16 March 1993 vol 221 c179W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps are being taken to make prospective patients aware of the risks involved in breast implant surgery.

Mr. Sackville

The Department keeps the potential risks of these implants under review and provides advice. The Chief Medical Officer wrote to all doctors on this topic in January 1992. A copy of the letter has been placed in the Library.

It remains the professional responsibility of clinicians to inform patients about the possibility of any known side effects in the process of obtaining consent.
