To ask the Prime Minister, pursuant to his oral answers to the hon. Member for Angus, East (Mr. Welsh) and for Edinburgh, Leith (Mr. Chisholm), of 9 March,Official Report, column 783–4, whether a decision has now been taken to proceed with the privatisation of Scottish water.

[holding answer 12 March 1993]: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has consulted widely on the future of the water and sewerage services in Scotland. We will announce our conclusions after the responses have been carefully considered. No decision has been taken.
